Come skate with us!
Here are some frequently asked questions:
When and where is practice?
From 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.on Mondays at Wheels of Wonder - 175 Southern Plaza Drive, at 465 and 31S.
What are the requirements for CCS skaters?
You have to be female (unless refereeing), at least 18 years old, have all protective equipment and roller skates. You’ll need to get health insurance through USA Roller Sports ($55 per year) upon joining the league. Additional insurance is not required, but recommended.
How time-consuming is this?
A great thing about CCS is the lack of mandatory attendance. But after a few awesome rounds on the rink, most girls get hooked and want to skate all the time. If you’re interested in skating in a bout, you should plan on coming to as many of our thrice-weekly practices as possible.
Will I get hurt?
You might. Many of us have never suffered more than bruises (badges of pride) and sore muscles. But roller derby is a full-contact sport and injuries do happen. That’s why we wear full protective gear (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, mouth guard, sometimes even a tailbone pad) at every practice.
How can I join?
If you’ve never skated with another derby league, you should observe one practice before skating with us. New skaters can pay $10 to skate at one CCS practice. If you decide to join, membership dues are $25 per month. We’d love to see you – just let us know in advance if you plan to come to a practice and we’ll look forward to meeting you!
What if I’m not a girl? Or I don’t want to skate?
Men and women can be part of CCS as referees, stats crew, medics, and volunteers. Referees need to pay dues, have equipment, and have at least USARS health insurance.
